 Question regarding G2 toys
« Thread Started on Feb 23, 2004, 9:33pm »

I've just picked up the Cybertronian Transformers recognition guide to G2 (ridiculously cheap- £3.99 from that comic shop in the Corn Exchange in Leeds) and they seem to have a lot of G2 toys missing. The book is an American publication, so were a lot of these toys that are missing only released in Europe (and presumably Japan)? I'm talking about toys like Thunderclash, and Pyro (?). Those with the water cannons are missing too, sorry I don't know their names. Were they late G1 or G2? I'm all confused now!

Thunderclash was late G1 as were the Turbomasters and Predators. Pyro and the Stormtroopers etc were G2. Which comic shop did u get it from? The one near the Little Tokyo restaurant?

I'm not sure where the Little Tokyo restaurant is. I got it from the shop in the Corn Exchange by the bus station, its called Travelling Man or something like that. They only had one copy of it in their sales section.

The place next to the little chinese restraunt is called city cyber and has moved upstairs. They dont have books on tf's, just a couple of armada and takara reissues, sometimes binaltech. Which part of Travelling man did you go to? i know they just built a discount store next door, although i haven't been in yet.

Some of the stormtroopers etc may not be in the book, as they may have been exclusives or something? Or maybe its in volumes? does it say vol.1 or something?

Its a series of books covering all the Transformers. Volumes 1 to 5 are G1 (of which I only volumes 1 to 3) and volume 6 is G2. Volume 7 is Beast Wars apparently. It does have some exclusives, the Botcon exclusive Breakdown and a few others. I was just wondering if they weren't included because they weren't released in America.

As for the shop, yeah I did get it from the discount store, but it was the only Transformers stuff they had in there. Where is Cyber City? I've not heard of it.

My guess would be that it's the European exclusives that have been left out - the Botcon exclusives were available in the US.

Were there any Japanese G2 toys listed?

Thunderclash, the Turbomasters and Predators were late G1 European/Australasian exclusives, so that is why they were left out.

Pyro etc were G2, which is why they wouldn't feature.

Last time I went, Cyber City was pretty good for transformers comics, whereas my local Travelling Man in York is currenly useless, it overstocks one month then misses a few issues...oh, and Little TOkyo is a suprisingly large Japanese restaurant ;)

You have to bear in mind that between the first wave of Action Masters and G2, there was no American line. Anything we got then was pretty much exclusives.

Thunderclash was UK/Euro only along with SkyQuake, Stalker and Rotorstorm (not even the Japanese got these) but they we released in altered forms in the states for Machine Wars.

Pyro, the Aquaspeeders, the Stormtroopers, Clench, the Skyscorchers, Axcelerators, Lightformsers and Trakkons were UK/European exclusives (NO Japanese release) and were originally sold as G1 toys (which is how I got them all) switching to G2 packaging for the folloiwng year.

Hasbro USA then reused the Axcelerators as G2 Autobot Cars, the Skyscorchers as G2 Decep Jets (all with liberal name changing), and took the Aquaspeeders and used half as Deces, half as Autobots and screwed around with the colour schemes and names - calling them "G2 Color-Change Cars".

The USA and Japan never got Pyro, Clench, the Stromtroopers, the Lightformers or the Trakkons. The USA never got the Resue Force, nor the small Turbomasters or Predators.

In fact their Machine Wars issues of the toys that were Thunderclash, Rotorstorm, Stalker and Skyquake are laughable due to the missile launcher removal and cheaper plastic!!! And since when has Optimus had a normal face?

Thanks for your replies guys, I'm not as confused anymore! Are there any good websites that have pictures of all these Euro-only toys?

City cyber is upstairs in merrion center. If you go to the staircase in the middle that has 4 different ways you can go, go up it and you cant miss it. If thats too confusing, all you need to know is its at the top of merrion center.

I've got that volume of Cybertronian as well. As far as I can make out the series only covers American releases, although it does state in the individual descriptions which toys were originally UK/Euro releases. It's a fair bet that the title was aimed at American collectors and never really intended for distribution outside the US and Canada. Strangely I picked my copy up from the bargain box at Travelling Man in York.
